For helping us raise $145,000 for 2007

A huge Thank You to all Kicks For a Cure sponsors, volunteers, players, coaches and fans who made this year's event an overwhelming success. Your donations are making a difference in our community!

The second annual Kicks For A Cure women's soccer exhibition, a benefit for the Liz's Legacy Cancer Fund, was held April 20-21, 2007 at Creighton's Morrison Stadium, raising a record $145,000 for local cancer research efforts. Proceeds benefit UNMC Eppley Cancer Center and Creighton University’s Hereditary Cancer Center.
The event drew over 1,500 people to the stadium for the games on Saturday April 21st. A kickoff banquet Friday evening April 20th was attended by 450 people, while over 110 underprivileged youth participated in a Friday afternoon clinic conducted by collegiate players and coaches.

The results from 2007 KFAC games were:
Millard North 5, Westside 2
Rockurst 2, Nebraska-Omaha 0
Elkhorn 0, Gretna 0 (Elkhorn 4-2 in shootout)
Marquette 1, Creighton 0

Kicks for a Cure is an annual spring soccer weekend hosted at Creighton University. The primary purpose of the weekend is to raise awareness for women’s cancer education and prevention. This is also an opportunity to generate a broader interest in women’s collegiate athletics, and to showcase Omaha as a compassionate, vibrant community where health care, education, commerce and recreation intertwine.

Your support of Kicks for a Cure and of Liz’s Legacy is an investment in the quest to find more effective ways to diagnose, treat and prevent cancer – it is an investment in our people and our community.

Former U.S. Senator David Karnes and daughters Korey, Kalen, Kara and Laurel serve as honorary chairs.

All of the proceeds of this event benefit Liz’s Legacy, the fund started by the Karnes family in memory of their wife and mother, the late Dr. Liz Karnes. The funds are being directed toward research projects at both the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center and the Hereditary Cancer Center at Creighton University.
