Kicks For A Cure Provides Vital Funding

Meeting the goal of $ 100,000

The inaugral Kicks for a Cure benefit in April 2006 enabled Creighton University's Hereditary Cancer Center to extend their cancer research. From the generaous donations and funds raised from Kicks for a Cure, the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health was able to increase its personnel devoted to the fight against cancer. Adding new staff provided much needed help in Creighton's cancer research laboratory in the growth and maintenance of cell lines and processing of specimens as they come in. These functions are integral to the ongoing research of the department.

Kicks for a Cure funding also made it possible to conduct a Family Information Service (FIS) for one of Creighton's   hereditary multiple myeloma families.  An FIS is held at a geographic location that enables as many family members   as possible to attend.  It uses a friendly, informal setting to provide pertinent information about the genetics, natural   history, DNA testing options, cancer surveillance, and risk management of a family's hereditary cancer syndrome.

We are very appreciative that Creighton's Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health was chosen to        benefit from this inaugral event.
